Photo Fun

Here are some recent photos for your enjoyment!

First Bike Ride

As an early birthday present, Oma and Opa bought us a bike trailer for Felix so that we can take family bike rides. We have only gone for a few short rides, as Felix is still getting used to it. We have to figure out how to get his helmet to stay on while we are riding. It is about 12 times the size of his head so it can be a bit cumbersome. Check out the photos...so funny!

Back Track, a bit!

It is June 5th and I realized that we have kind of abandoned the blog, but maybe just maybe with summer upon us we can be better about it. Benjamin has sworn off facebook, and so he might be back into blogging after school gets out! Spring in Vermont can typically be hit or miss, but this year it has been long and glorious. We did have some weeks of rain and clouds, but it hasn't gone from 59 degrees to 89 degrees, which always takes us by surprise. In fact, we are easing into summer with the last few weeks cruising around 65-70 degrees. Perfection in my eyes.

I celebrated my first mother's day and was surprised with an amazing pencil drawing of a photograph of Felix and I. Jacob did the drawing and it is beautiful. The photo doesn't do it justice...but you will get the idea

As Benjamin wraps up his year, I am jumping into next year already. I have had lots of meetings and planning days with my new team of teachers. It is a very dynamic team and I am excited to get to know them better. I have a lot of work ahead of me this summer, so Benjamin and I are going to set up a work schedule for the summer months. I will be developing curriculum and he, working on his novel...which I recently finished reading and is really great! I had moments where I literally couldn't put it down.

Felix is growing like a weed and is so much fun. He is developing quite the little personality. He is chatty, silly, hotheaded, smily, and moving constantly. I really can't figure out where he would get any of those traits. haha I will say this...his red hair is not so red anymore, and actually quite blond. But, those eyes...holy moly are they blue!

I cannot believe that is first birthday is approaching! It has been an amazing year for all of us! We absolutely love being parents and couldn't be blessed with a sweeter guy!

Playing in the Kitchen

As Felix is becoming more mobile, we have started to take some necessary child-proofing measures. To start, we had to move some cookbooks and mini-food processor because he loved pulling them off the shelf. We figured the electrical cord and blade in the food processor were big signs of danger. We replaced that stuff, with a basket of toys and his favorite cake pans. Felix is thrilled with the change.

Little Yogi

Here is Felix, showing off his budding yoga practice!

Water Play

Felix enjoyed his first bout of water play this past week. He played with, splashed, and dumped water all over himself and had a blast doing it.

Big Rascal!!!

Ok...since Felix hit the nine month mark, he has learned a lot of new things! No, he hasn't learned to crawl forward, but boy, can he scoot backwards! When I sit him down on the kitchen floor to play while I am making lunch, he will sit for a few moments and quickly make his way to his belly. Yesterday he scooted backwards right into the kitchen-aid mixer and was kicking the bowl!

Felix has also started to develop his pincher grasp by picking up little puffs or pieces of fruit to snack on. He and his friend Aoife enjoy noshing on puffs together!

When left to his own devices in his room, he decided to help me put his laundry away! He was so proud of himself when I returned, and found the laundry basket, of folded laundry, all over the floor!

Felix discovered that he LOVES the swings at Battery Park. While fussing in his stroller, I decided to stop at the park and try out the swings. He was laughing hysterically. It was so cute! We went back to the park with Aoife...but she wasn't that into it!

Now the icing on the cake of Felix developing "rascalness", is what I found today when I went to check to see if he was napping...

Need I say more!

Grandma Meehan

9 days after my grandpa passed away, my grandma joined her husband of 65 years! As sad as I am to lose both of my grandparents together, I think it is a picture of true love. I hope they are happy together, free of sickness and hospitals! We will celebrate their lives at a joint service in May! Unfortunately, I don't have any photos of her on this computer!

Our Trip to Florida

Last Monday, March 16th, Felix and I boarded a plane in Hartford, CT and flew straight to Fort Meyers, FL. We met Felix's Opa and Great Grandma on the Roesch side. Felix had his first views of palm trees, sun! (for real), warm weather, the beach and the pool! He loved it all. He ate fistfuls of sand during his first trip to the beach! He was so funny...he would make funny faces and then go right back for more! The pool was so much fun. He didn't mind if we swam him around or if he was in his little floaty thing! Uncle Jacob joined us on Wednesday and Benjamin flew down on Thursday! So fun! Aunt Margaret and Pat also joined us for the weekend. It was great to catch up with everyone, enjoy dinners out, and lounge at the same time. Felix loved donning each new restaurant with his patented SCREECH! We celebrated John's birthday with a dinner out and homemade German Chocolate cake and Strawberry Rhubarb pie. YUM! Felix was a trooper on the plane. He certainly would love to move around, but wouldn't we all when we are traveling on an airplane. We luckily had a seat in between us and he got to lounge! All in all, it was a great trip. Being back home has been good, but we sure wish spring would hurry up and get here!

ENJOY HIS CUTENESS!

Grandpa Meehan

Felix's First Visit with Great Grandpa Meehan

I have been thinking a lot about grandpa since his passing and I was trying to remember the first time I met him. I cannot remember the exact meeting as I was probably 12 or 13, but I do remember that he started out as Mr. Meehan because my dad had yet to marry Elizabeth. I remember taking a liking to him right away, as what was there not to like! He was warm, welcoming, and had a fantastic sense of humor. At my dad and Elizabeth's wedding, I won't ever forget the "welcome to the family" that came from Grandpa! Mr. Meehan became grandpa just like that! It was an easy transition to make with someone who fit the role so perfectly. I have lots of great memories of spending long summer days on Latimer Point with Grandma and Grandpa keeping eye on all the happenings around them...always with warm smiles and sparkly eyes.
Lucky for me, that even without Grandpa there...I still get to see sparkly eyes as my dad and Elizabeth have become grandparents at Latimer Point. The legend of (great) Grandpa Meehan will carry over for Felix through his grandma and grandpa at the beach!

I know, I know

So I just realized that it has been two months since we have updated our blog! I am so sorry. I have one word for you: FACEBOOK...the evil being that it is. Sometimes I just want to quit cold turkey...erase my name from it and be done. Or maybe i should start a Facebook Anonymous meeting time. I don't think I would be the only one there!

In all seriousness, things have been fairly good. With the ups and downs of life, we seem to be sustaining here in Burlington. We are getting to the time of year, where the thought of wearing coats, boots, hats, and scarves is becoming quite old and honestly, a burden. March brings more cloudy days with some more mild temperatures equalling lots of puddles and lots of mud.

We just got back from spending a week in Colorado with John, Anita, Maegen, and Jay! I would post pictures except that we didn't take any!!! Parents of the year, I know. BUT, just you wait until I receive the disc of 8000 pictures from Anita and the disc of 600 from Maegen. Believe me, the trip was very well documented. Felix took his first ride in the gondola for a photo shoot at the top of Keystone. He was unimpressed with the whole deal, but was happily sporting his new sunglasses. He was a trooper on all of the flights! He didn't even seem to mind when some creepy guy on the airplane LOVED the fact that I was breastfeeding two seats over from him. GROSS! I did mind, alot!

Upon our return, we were donned with some bad news. My grandpa Meehan passed away! He had been in the hospital and things just got ahead of him. He is going to be missed very much! (see posting)

Eh!

Hey, you talkin' ta me!?!

A Visit with Friends

Today, Felix and I went to visit with my friend, Gwenn, and her two boys, Max and Gus. She is visiting the east coast from San Diego, where she moved three years ago. Max is two months younger than Felix, but is about the same size. They were very sweet checking each other out! It is always an eye-opener to see what life would be like if we had two kids. Gwenn and Mia do it with such grace, they make it look easy! We met at Mia's house, who has 3 girls, an had a mini-Barnes reunion! It was great to see old friends and to share in the latest scoop!

Felix and his Dad

Felix wanted to buy his dad a christmas present and here is what he picked out:

First Holidays!

We celebrated our first Christmas and New Year's with Felix and had an absolute blast! It was a trade off because last year at Christmas, Benjamin and I were sunning ourselves on Vieques, an island off of Puerto Rico...but this year we are blessed with our amazing little boy! On Christmas Eve, we had munchies here with the Curleys (Maegen and Jay, and Kathy and Paul) and my mom. We ate lots of good food and exchanged some presents! It was really nice to spend Christmas eve with Maegen, as we can't remember the last time we spent the holiday together.
We awoke early on Christmas morning, packed the car, and headed for Oneonta, NY! I must say that even with the baby and the dog we beat Jacob and Diana there by an hour or so! heehee!!! We had appetizers upon arrival and then opened presents! I must admit that we did not take a single photo during present time, but Felix did get lots of nice things...and so did we! With all five boys, plus me and Diana, and Karen and Doug opening presents at the same time, it didn't leave much time for photos!
We enjoyed an excellent turkey dinner with the Daileys and then dessert with the Sassons!!! Always great to catch up with everyone!
Nana and Tigger were loving them some Felix all weekend. Nana decided since Felix has 8 grandparents, she needs to find a way to be remembered!! She started the trend by giving Felix his first sip of ginger ale and a nibble on some pizza crust! I didn't think either of these things were cute, but looking at the photos I suppose it's alright!
New Year's Eve was fairly mellow. Sean, Michelle, and Leah came over for dinner and fun. Benjamin, aka Jamie Oliver, made pulled pork with homemade bbq sauce and buns. We also had winter vegetable coleslaw, salad, cookies, and some very special brownies! YUMYUM! Let the diet begin, as i have been eating cookies, candy, and treats for the entire month of december!
